There are two situations that may occur in the process of transportation, storage and loading of bulk industrial sulfur powder, such as sulfur fire and sulfur dust explosion, resulting in serious risks and losses.
Sulphur fire
1. There is a large amount of granular sulfur stored in the bulk sulfur material yard, which shows different combustion performance under the condition of different particle sizes.
2. A large number of stacked sulfur particles may contact with oxygen in the air to produce an oxidative exothermic reaction. Under a certain sulfur deposition state, the heat cannot be fully dissipated, which may increase the temperature of the sulfur stack and cause spontaneous combustion.
3. The sulfur dust deposited on the surface with high temperature, such as the hot surface of lighting device and mechanical equipment, may smolder after being heated for a period of time within a certain layer thickness range (such as 10-20mm), and may eventually turn into an open flame. .
Sulphur Dust Explosion
Suspended sulphur dust in the air is explosive when the concentration reaches 35g/m3. The most prone to dust explosions in the bulk sulphur yard are as follows:
1. Bulk sulfur blanking point: At the blanking point, the sulfur material falls from top to bottom with the help of its own gravity, which is easy to cause dust flying.
2. At the feed chute: During the conveying process of the sulfur particles through the feed chute, the mechanical vibration and the frictional collision between the particles are likely to produce suspended sulfur dust.
3. The sulphur dust deposited in pits, depressions, ditches, dead corners and equipment surfaces will easily cause dust to fly during the cleaning process and form suspended explosion conditions. In addition to dust explosions, there may be flammable gases such as hydrogen sulfide in the sulfur yard. These gases are heavier than air, and there is also a fire and explosion hazard caused by the accumulation of flammable gas at the bottom of the yard.
The above is the risk analysis of the storage system of industrial sulfur powder. I hope you can effectively avoid these risks in the process of use.
